Shifting Gears in a Day

People ask how I stay so productive, but I think the bigger question is, how do I stay present for all of it? I don’t want to be so focused on checking stuff off my list that I miss out on all the good.

The key for me is shifting gears throughout the day.

If I sleep for seven hours and plan around a one hour siesta, that leaves me with sixteen hours, that divide nicely into four blocks.

The first block is COLLABORATE.

The morning is where I try and steer my meetings, respond to emails, and crank out the basic tasks that need to get done.

The afternoon block is where I CREATE.

I set aside longer amounts of time for deep creative work like writing.

The early evening is where I CONNECT.

It’s family time. Or maybe where I have people for dinner, go on social outings, etc.

And once the kids are asleep, it’s time to CHILL.

This is where I reset my energy, read, and relax.

Knowing how to direct my energy helps me be present, because I love my life, but it’s very, very full.
